Scott Kimmerly is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He has been with Peachtree Orthopedics since 2009. Prior to that, he was an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Emory University. Before that, he was on staff at the Steadman-Hawkins clinic in Vail, Colorado. His clinical interests include arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee, as well as general orthopedics and trauma. Dr. Kimmerly is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and holds a certificate of added qualification in sports medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

A native of Tennessee, Dr. Kimmerly received his undergraduate degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He attended medical school at the University of Tennessee. From there he completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Emory University. While there, he assisted with the sports medicine coverage of both Georgia Tech and Emory University. After Emory, he completed a one-year fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at the prestigious Steadman-Hawkins clinic in Vail, Colorado. While in Vail, he assisted in the medical care of elite athletes at the professional and Olympic levels, as well as with the care of the Denver Broncos professional football team. Following this, he embarked on a traveling fellowship in sports-related foot and ankle injuries, visiting leaders in the field across the country. He returned to Steadman-Hawkins afterwards and was a member of the orthopedic staff until his return to Atlanta. He served on the staff at Emory University as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery for two years before joining Peachtree Orthopedics in 2009.

Dr. Kimmerly has authored numerous orthopedic publications, presentations, and video demonstrations. He has served as course director for several orthopedic, educational conferences. In addition to his previous academic role at Emory, he currently serves as a clinical faculty member for the Atlanta Medical Center Orthopedic residency program. Dr. Kimmerly is also the current president of the Atlanta Orthopaedic Society.

Throughout his career, he has been involved in the care of athletes, including those at the professional, collegiate, high school, and recreational levels. He continues to serve as an official medical provider for both the United States ski and snowboard teams. Over the years, he has traveled to South America and Europe with the women’s alpine team, most recently covering their 2018 World Cup Races in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. Dr. Kimmerly currently assists in the medical management of the MLS’ Atlanta United, serving as one of the team orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Kimmerly has also served as an event physician for many large athletic competitions including the Countrywide American Ski Classic in Vail, the Chevrolet US Snowboarding Grand Prix in Breckenridge, the Visa “Birds of Prey” in Beaver Creek, the Atlanta Steeplechase, and the TOUR Championship. He also assists in the sports medicine coverage for the Lovett School.
