OVERVIEW
Scott Pennington, M.D., joined Peachtree Orthopedics in 2008. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and has a Certificate of Added Qualifications in sports medicine. He brings extensive national and international training in shoulder surgery and sports medicine. Serving as a team doctor for several professional teams, Dr. Pennington focuses on shoulder and knee issues with particular expertise in rotator cuff tears, ACL reconstruction, shoulder replacements and fracture care.

EDUCATION & TRAINING
Scott D. Pennington, M.D., is board certified and brings extensive national and international training in shoulder surgery, as well as an expertise in general orthopedics, arthroscopy, and fracture care. After graduating from The Westminster Schools, Dr. Pennington earned his undergraduate degree in biology (summa cum laude) from the University of Georgia’s Honors Program. Dr. Pennington received his medical doctorate from the Emory University School of Medicine, where he was awarded the Joseph P. Whitehead Surgery Scholarship and was recognized for his research on ultrasound examinations of critically injured patients.He completed his orthopedic surgery internship and residency at Parkland Hospital at the University of Texas at Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. Parkland is one of the busiest trauma hospitals in the United States. It was during this time in Dallas that Dr. Pennington became interested in the pioneering technology and advanced surgical practices of shoulder surgeons in Europe. Additionally, Dr. Pennington was awarded the prestigious Harvard Shoulder Fellowship and he served as clinical instructor at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Pennington works with the Gwinnett Stripers (the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves formerly known as the Gwinnett Braves), and previously served as a team physician for the soccer, basketball and volleyball teams at Georgia State University.
Outside of work, Dr. Pennington enjoys spending time with his wife and three children and is active in his church community. He is an accomplished musician and has released multiple recordings with his band, Blue Sky Foundry.
Dr. Pennington is fluent in Spanish and is accepting new patients.

Dr. Pennington is proud to serve Atlanta United FC’s AU2 as one of the team’s orthopedic surgeons. He provides orthopedic and sports medicine care to the professional players in collaboration with Piedmont Healthcare’s role as the Official Adult Healthcare Partner of Atlanta United.
Accepted as a Fellow into The American College of Surgeons
In 2023, Dr. Pennington was accepted as a Fellow into The American College of Surgeons. ACS is an elite, non-orthopedic organization of made up of surgeons across the country. Dr. Pennington is the first physician from Peachtree to ever be admitted, and is one of only 19 orthopedic surgeons in the state of Georgia.
