BIO
EDUCATION & TRAINING
A native of Atlanta, Dr. Royster earned his B.S. from the University of Georgia, where he was valedictorian, in 1977. He was awarded his M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia in 1980. He completed his orthopedic residency at Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He received extensive training in sports medicine by way of a fellowship at the Hughston Orthopaedic Clinic. After completing his fellowship, he returned to Wilford Hall where he served as the head of sports medicine in the department of orthopedic surgery and as a clinical professor of orthopedics.
Dr. Royster served eleven years in the U.S. Air Force. He was a flight surgeon for the Air Force Aerial Demonstration Squadron (the famous Thunderbirds) and later served as staff orthopedic surgeon.
