OVERVIEW

Dr. Fryhofer is a native of Atlanta, GA and attended the Westminster School, where he was a three-sport athlete —cross country (two state championships), basketball, and track. He then attended Harvard University, where he rowed on the freshman and club lightweight crew teams and served as editor of the Harvard Health Policy Review. He graduated in 2012 with high honors, earning a BA in Chemical and Physical Biology.

Dr. Fryhofer attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He also spent a year conducting translational research in the orthopedic basic science lab. He graduated in 2017 with both an MD degree as well as an M.Sci. degree in Translational Research, earning the Jonathan Rhoads Prize for Surgical Scholarship.

Following medical school, Dr. Fryhofer remained at the University of Pennsylvania for his orthopedic surgery residency. During his time there, he served on the Residency Program Quality and Safety Committee and was also the Editor-in-Chief of the University of Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Journal. In 2021, he received the Resident Research Award and, during his final year of residency, was elected Chief Resident by his faculty and peers and was recognized with the DeForest P. Willard, MD Award for outstanding contributions to the residency.

Dr. Fryhofer completed his spine surgery fellowship at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush University in Chicago, IL under the tutelage of several world-renowned spine surgeons, including Dr. Howard An, Dr. Kern Singh, and Dr. Frank Phillips. While at Rush, Dr. Fryhofer gained particular insight and interest in minimally invasive outpatient spine surgery, including cervical disc replacement. He also has training in microscopic, robotic, and endoscopic spine surgery and, where appropriate, incorporates 3D-navigation technology into his practice.

Dr. Fryhofer is the author of more than 30 peer-reviewed publications.

In his spare time, Dr. Fryhofer is an avid runner (clocking a sub-3:00 time in the Chicago Marathon as well as competing in the 2021 Waco Ironman). He also enjoys hunting, astrophotography, and spending time with his wife and daughter.
